Why You Will Never Get Government Funding!

Most people, when starting a small business in Canada consider government funding as an option. The government of Canada has hundreds of different government funding programs available across the country, for pretty much all industries and many funding needs. But you will most likely never get government funding!
How dare you say that; some of you are thinking.
- I am a Canadian and I pay my taxes – I deserve to get government funding for my business!
- Why do immigrants and refugees get government funding and I can’t?
- Government funding is a scam!
- Government funding doesn’t exist!
- I won’t get funding even if I apply, so point.
- I tried before and “THEY” said no.
Don’t get upset; but if you’re a person who is thinking any of the above – you will never get government funding for your business in Canada.
It’s sad, but it’s very true.
But wait – it’s not too late. It might not be your fault that you are thinking this way, it’s perhaps a bad experience, or in-experience or just lack of knowledge surrounding the idea of government funding.
So let’s answer the above concerns, one by one – together, shall we?
I deserve to get government funding for my business!
Look, buddy – take it easy.
Nobody want’s to hear about how you deserve business funding.
Why do you deserve it? Because you’re Canadian? Because you pay taxes? So do millions of other people across Canada – so how does one (funding agency) decide who get’s funding and who “deserves it more”?
The truth is, the Canadian government doesn’t really care about you being Canadian and paying taxes (they do if you don’t pay), but it does not help you get government funding for your small business.
Have you taken the steps to get government funding?
Having a business plan, being in the right location, right industry and having the funding needs which government funding agencies look for is more likely to get you funding.
So give it a break – you won’t get government funding if you think that you deserve it. But if you’re able to re-think your strategy, write yourself a business plan, find a program that may be right for you, meet the requirements and apply – you stand a much greater chance of getting government funding.
Immigrants and Refugees Get Government Funding, Why Not Me?
Immigrants and refugees to Canada get government funding, but I can’t. There is a reason why you can’t.
That reason is:
1. The Canadian government is a multicultural economy, a proud country that is build by immigrants. Funding does exist for those who are immigrants, however they must be Canadian Citizens before they can apply for government funding for their business.
If you think that an immigrant to Canada is obtaining government grants or government loans to start a business; you are simply wrong.
The same goes for refugees.
While fleeing their homeland to come to Canada, refugees are given funding from the government to help them live and survive – these refugees are not obtaining government funding to help them start a business (at least not until the become Canadian Citizens).
Re-think what you think you know.
If your plan, as a Canadian is to obtain government funding for your business – it’s recommended to focus on what may be available in terms of funding for you and not what is available for others.
Government Funding Is A Scam!
A scam is defined as a dishonest scheme; a fraud.
Government funding, simply is not that.
Government funding is made to help the economy grow, to create jobs and to ensure that you, living in Canada have a comfortable life overall.
Funding, while available across the country, may not be available for every single funding need. A bit of research is required before you actually know if you’re eligible or not.
Most of the time, the reason why people think “government funding is a scam” is simply because they are suffering from a bad experience or being denied funding.
Think about it; imagine you spend all this time building your business plan (paying for it), searching for funding programs and finally applying for it – and you get denied?
Wouldn’t you think it’s a scam?
Perhaps, or you could figure out the reason why you were denied, improve your plan and application and move on to the next program.
Government Funding Doesn’t Exist!
A big big concern.
Many people will simply give up the search for funding after not being able to find any government funding after a few hours.
A typical funding search however takes between 3 to 4 weeks before you as the business owner can successfully find a government funding program that may be right for you.
Most of the time, those individuals who state that funding does not exist are those individuals who have not invested time to locate funding programs.
Think about it; calling your local town hall and asking if there are any funding programs – they may say no.
This can happen often, especially if there are no funding programs for small businesses in that city. However, what nobody tells you is that there are funding programs in other cities, other provinces and across the country you may be eligible for.
Don’t give up simply because you’ve heard a “no”, instead – continue your search until you find a program. Hundreds of small business owners get funding every day, why can’t you?
I Won’t Get Funding Even If I Apply
Another sad reason why you won’t ever get funding – if you follow this idea.
The saying, you don’t know until you try is an important saying to keep in mind here.
Many people don’t want to waste time, that’s why they don’t do a funding search and don’t apply to get government funding – but what if you actually took some time to try?
Don’t you think you could benefit from funding to help you startup, to expand, to pay for tools and equipment, for marketing…?
Stop right now, don’t be lazy – this is your business.
I Tried To Get Funding And They Said No
Well that can be tough, but it’s not the end of the line just yet.
As a business owner you have to keep going and be strong in order to get funded.
The first order of business is to ask yourself, why did the funding agency say no?
- Did you apply to the wrong program?
- Maybe you asked for too much?
- Was it the wrong time you applied?
- Maybe your business plan was just bad?
Figure out the reason – fix it and apply again.
Remember that there are nearly a thousand different government funding programs – not all are right for you but on average a individual/small business is eligible for 3 to 4 government funding programs. Just give it a shot again.
