Government Funding. Is it real or not?
This is one question that often is discussed around here among entrepreneurs already in business, or starting a small business.
Well let us dig deep and find out for you once and for all.
Are Government Grants, Loans and Small Business Funding Programs Real?
When it comes to starting a small business, many people turn to personal finance, family/friends and the banks – but often they skip over their own government. Why? Because for a very long time there has been a misconception that government grants, loans and funding programs are not real. That they do exist, but nobody is ever eligible for them.
The fact is that the Canadian government has handed out billions of dollars each year to fund/finance small business startups, expanding businesses and in order to create jobs from small businesses in the Canadian economy.
Take a look at the Canadian government website right here for some government grant,  loan and financial assistance programs.
Isn’t that all the proof that you need?
No matter if you believe it or not, government funding is real. It does exist, and if you aren’t applying, you are missing out.
So why do people thing that government grants, loans and funding programs aren’t real?
We asked a bunch of people and here are the results:
These poll results have been conducted  over a period of 30 days (asking non-believers) of government funding programs why they think it doesn’t exist. We conducted the survey and received 675 responses from existing and new small business owners. Please note the percentage numbers have been rounded up to nearest 10th.
As you can see the top response as to why people don’t believe in government funding is because they have never seen them.
So lets show you some funding programs.
1st: Lets start with the Canadian Government Website.
The Canadian government shows you funding programs for various industries and various funding needs.
2nd: There are currently 264 grant programs, 147 loan programs and 231 business assistance programs offered by the Canadian government. But note one thing; not all programs are offered just by the Canadian government, but are offered through various government agencies. This is the main reason why you rarely see programs all in one place.
3rd: CanadaStartups (our own website/business) offers a Funding Database product. Within this database we have hundreds of Canadian government grants, government loans and funding assistance programs. Yes, offered by the Canadian government. On top of that, there is also 862 private investor programs which a small business can apply to (for those who still aren’t convinced of government funding). And the fact is that just in our database alone there is $612,676,848 in available funding.  Just yesterday we took a quick walk through video on how to find funding programs in Ontario. Might be worth a look if you are having any doubts.
4th: And the last point…I want you to take a look yourself. Startup Assessment Tool. By clicking this link, you will see our Startup Assessment Tool which will tell you what you need to make your business successful, how CanadaStartups can help and you will see the funding programs and potential funding amount for your industry/business/funding needs.
Now if that isn’t enough to convince you that government funding programs are real and that you should consider giving it a try, I don’t know what will.
